Hi Friends –

Those of you who know me well, know that I like to put my body and mind through experimentation (meditate every day! no coffee for a month! run a marathon!).

Well this time the experimentation revolves around not having wheels (car went to ex in divorce; bike is out of commission) and relying on my legs and feet for transportation.

What is the outcome? Well, my heart is healthy (44 bpm resting, 202 bmp max), my sleep rocks, my appetite is healthy and my mind is happy (also due to amazing friends, family, therapy, art, spiritual teachers, nature hikes etc etc).

But my legs definitely are tired. 1.4 million steps translates into roughly 10.7 miles per day of running and walking, or 660 miles for the year. In other words, I have walked/run 25 marathons so far.

As it turns out, my patterns are similar to our ancestors – the hunter-gatherers who covered 10-14 miles per day on foot – running and walking. https://www.inc.com/jessica-stillman/a-study-of-140000-people-says-walking-this-much-per-week-adds-years-to-your-life.html

So, are tired legs a problem? Not necessarily, but I would like to run a race sometime in the near future and for that tired legs are a drag – literally. In other words, as the temperatures rise, eventually, you will probably see me back on a bike 🙂

Happy trails!
